War and poverty, racism and fanaticism, shrinking and contaminated natural resources, man-made diseases, selfishness and greed... The representation the media makes of our world is afflicting, and rightly so, for awareness is the first step towards comprehension and change.
But pessimism brings resignation, aggression brings hatred. The intent of my work is to show that there is beauty all around us in simple and essential things, with the hope that this beauty can balance the violence we witness and inflict every day on ourselves and others.
I feel all my cells energized when I watch the sun rise over the wilderness, I feel deep peace and harmony with my surroundings during a long trek or a climb. Most often than not in the wilds, I also feel little and get an accute awareness of the insignificance of my very being and of most of man's problems. Outside of any ideological or religious framework, it inspires me to strive to walk a high path and reproduce some of this beauty in my daily life.
I wish that my photographs can convey a fraction of those feelings to others.
